LINDA LAEL MILLER
(Goodreads synopsis below.)
My thoughts: I used to read a lot of historical romance, many many years ago, but then I got into paranormal romance, and then contemporary, and I've pretty much stayed there for years. Reading MOONFIRE reminded me of how much I actually loved the historicals. This was a rousing romp set in Australia, a place I love to read about. Sure, it had the typical arrogant alpha hero, but the heroine was no simpering pansy and was more than a match for him. The bedroom (and not always in a bedroom) scenes got to be a bit much, but at 377 pages there was still plenty of ever evolving plot. Now I'm off to find the second book about the hero's brother!
Synopsis from Goodreads: After sailing to Australia only to find that the man who asked her to marry him has no intention of fulfilling his part of the bargain, Maggie Chamberlain vows to shape a new life for herself in Sydney. Then arrogant, wealthy Reeve McKenna captures Maggie's untried heart, thrilling her senses with a sweet, dark rush of desire. But Reeve cannot be hers alone, for he is obssessed by his search for his beloved brother James, lost two decades before. Reeve's fierce hunger for the Yankee beauty is not yet love, and Maggie wants both the breathless pleasure of his passion and the full surrender of his heart -- or nothing at all.
